Let’s Get Lost in a Book

Below I’ll be listing my all-time favorite books with a review. This list could get lengthy (since it seems like all of my lists tend to) but I’ll try to make it short. Please leave me any book suggestions in the comment section! I’ll be sure to check out the book and reply to your comment. I usually like realistic fiction, but I’m up for giving anything a try.

1. The Harry Potter Series. Of course. I’ve grown up with these books and I still love them. The writing is actually rather challenging and it is so detailed that you really would think the Wizarding World could be real. J.K. Rowling has such a great imagination and explains everything in such detail that it takes you to a whole different world. I love getting lost in these books and I’ve read the series more than once already.
2. The Book Thief. The beginning of this book is pretty confusing and maybe a bit slow. But if you can manage to stick it out past the first few chapters, I promise this book is worth it. It’s set in the time period of WWII in Nazi Germany and is told from the viewpoint of Death. This view-point makes it very interesting and the plot line is full of action and romance. The ending is a big twist, and managed to make me cry. I rarely cry at books too. Definitely worth a read. Just stick it out through the first few chapters.
3. Water for Elephants. Another interesting plot line. This book takes place in the 1920’s-1930’s during the Great Depression Era and Prohibition. It all focuses on a young man and his life taking care of a traveling circus’ animals. It’s actually told from the view-point of the man, but when he is older and in a nursing home. I realize this book is now a movie, but I’d strongly suggest to read the book before seeing the movie. Again, the plot line has some action, romance, drama and even some violence involved. There is a great portion of the book dedicated to Jacob’s (main character) relationship with the circus’ animals and the star performer with the circus, Marlena.
4. The Help. I just read this book this summer (before the movie) and I was happily surprised by it. I thought it would be a boring historical book about the Civil Rights Movement. I couldn’t be more wrong. It was indeed about the Civil Rights Movement, but it was all about how a few women from the deep south were trying their hardest to fight the discrimination the African-Americans were facing. It was such a good book because it really went into detail about all the dangers they faced for standing up to society and the fears they felt for doing it, but how they knew they were doing the right thing and how determined they were to make a change. This book also made me cry, but it was because I got so attached to the characters. I couldn’t help feeling like they were real people because they were described in every aspect, with their physical appearance, emotions, thoughts and dialogue all portrayed for the reader to learn more about them and fall in love with them.

As of now, these are my all time favorite books. I’m sure as I continue to read I’ll come across more and be sure to add them. But, I’m pretty picky about which books to call my favorites and which ones I would read over again. The books I place on this list I would more than happily read again and again.
